Pop Cafe Gallery
We invited our favourite artists to either transform vintage maps we gave them, into new works of art by imbuing them with their own unique styles or create original illustrated maps of the duchy.
Have a look at the results so far.......
Fashion designer, Luella Bartley; pop surrealist, Ben Allen; senior artist at Rockstar Games in New York, Stephen Bliss; street artist and stenciller supreme, Stewy; Wildcat Will Blanchard; and London based artist duo, Kai and Sunny jumped at the chance to be part of this project and new names are joining the list all the time.
“We are going to launch the Art & the Map of Cornwall show at POP on Saturday 8 August at the height of the tourist season, and cannot wait to share this cartographic collusion of two worlds: the precision and beauty of the vintage map with cutting edge, contemporary creativity,” adds Mike. “POP will be selling limited edition prints of the different versions and we hope that art lovers across the county will share our passion for celebrating the map of Cornwall in all its guises and forms.”
POP are pleased to welcome John Bray Cornish Holidays as a sponsor of the exhibition:
John Bray Cornish Holidays are proud to support the great Cornish artistic spirit that we feel this exhibition demonstrates. It combines art with Cornwall's strong maritime history, where maps and mapping were vital components of centuries of British successes. This is also a beautiful and exciting way of wrestling maps away from modern day "google and bing" - putting them back onto our walls where they can be appreciated in their full glory.
Well done to Pop Gallery, who continue to be such an innovative gallery in Wadebridge, for putting on such a fantastically exciting exhibition.
